    1 d. black, plate 1a, lettered OK, a fine appearing example with three large margins and shaved slightly at top, used on First Day of Issue outer letter sheet from Bristol to Bath tied by deep Crimson Maltese Cross with BRISTOL / MY 6 / 1840 code E double arc datestamp clearly struck on reverse. A delightful and extremely rare cover. Listed in Jackson's May Dates on page 47, this being one of very few provincial First Day Covers. Cert. BPA (1977).

Cancelled by circular grid cancels in black and by "New Orleans" despatch (Nov 6), "New York / Am. Packet" (Nov 17) and "Outre-Mer / Havre" (Nov 30) datestamps all struck in red. Charged '6' decimes due in black on receipt. . A magnificent cover of great visual appeal.
