    1891 (June 18): De La Rue Appendix sheet for proposed Keyplate issue rejected in favour of the 1892 bicoloured issue, with 6 d. Imperforate Colour Trials in dull lilac (8) and in dull green (4) all with various coloured Duty Plates and country löegend "TASMANIA" hand-painted in Chinese white with proposed values annotated in manuscript alongside. Manuscript at base "The 1 d. and 2 d. duties are included in the above colour scheme, although we believe that it is proposed at present to produce the stamps from the existing plates....we would proposed purple for the 1 d. and green for the 2 d.". Reverse with oval "MELBOURNE / ♛ / PORT PHILLIP" datestamp (Feb 19), London SHIP-LETTER in black and arrival cds (June 29). Interesting content "We are very anxious for accounts from New Zealand, Col. Defsard had advanced with 700 men of the 58th - 96th accompanied by the Governor....Sir E. Wilmot has formed a new Council and Van D. Land is quieter...Major Cotton has begun to form works for supplying Hobart Town with water....a Mr. Beauvais, Master of the Barque "Kestrel" is to be tried this week for murdering several of his Lascar crew...17 Feby. The New Zealand Chiefs have given in and have surrendered, a grand fight took place on the 11th Jany. when the natives were well thrashed". (this last refers to Kororareka).     1848 (Sept 19): Entire letter from Cecil Pybus Cooke at 'The Pine Hill' (near Harrow) to Wimmera District, rated '1d.' as a drop letter in manuscript, struck on reverse with two superb strikes of oval "BURN BANK / ♛ / PT. PHILLIP" in black (Sept 23 and Sept 26). Displays werll, a fine and rare entire.rnrnNote: Cecil Pybus Cooke (1813-1895) arrived at Portland in mid-1839 and became a prominent pastoralist. His letter asks the Commissioner to visit Pine Hill to confirm disputed boundaries. Honduras" and thence forwarded to Berlin, cancelled by three strikes of "26 / V" Butterfly handstamp in black. '8' (pence) ship letter fee deleted on forwarding, most probably as an enclosure. The "Honduras" left Melbourne on 29 Aug 1851 and arrived in London on 8 January 1852. One of just two recorded pairs of this stamp on letter.     Typographed from electrotypes by Samuel Calvert 1857: Emblems 2 d. grey-lilac, no wmk., rouletted 18-19, an unused horizontal pair of outstanding centering for this Trial issue and of lovely colour, minor ironed bend on right hand stamp and surface spot on left stamp mentioned for accuracy only, unused without gum. An exceptional and extremely rare pair - one block of six was discovered (1893) and of these, one stamp is now housed in the collection of His Majesty King Charlöes III. The six stamps are believed to be the sole recorded examples - this pair being the largest multiple extant and the finer of the two known - the other having pinholes where, it is believed, the stamps were adjoined to a document thought to be a submission by Samuel Calvert for consideration of this method of separation.     Beaded Oval 1860/66: 4 d. rose-pink, wmk. Four Pence, perf. 12, a used block of twenty-four (6 x 4), corner marginal from lower left of sheet and showing "VICTORIA" watermark in both margins, all cancelled by "1" in bars obliterators of Melbourne in black. Five stamps affected by diagonal crease but a remarkable and extremely rare multiple with gum. Illustrated in "The Stamps of Victoria" by Geoff Kellow RDP on page 134 where stated as a possible 'bulk postage' usage or possibly as 'Specimens'.     1873/75: Essay for the proposed 9 d. value by William Bell, with head plate vignette hand-painted in shades of pink, imperforate on card (59 x 71 mm.), the frame hand-painted in shades of red and reddish-lilac, with the Essay signed "W.B." at base (William Bell) and marked "B" in ink on reverse.
