    Revenue 1892: De La Rue Appendix sheet dated "Aug 8th 1892" at top in manuscript, bearing nine Imperforate Essays of the "Revenue / Revenue" Keyplate (the design was eventually used in Seychelles in 1915, Barefoot records just a 4 c. value), with four values in dull purple and five in dull green, with countrey legend "SEYCHELLES" hand-painted on each and Duty Plates also hand-painted on all values. Initialled and dated as accepted at base "8.8.92" in red ink. Not illustrated in the "De La Rue Collection". Magnificent and beautiful Essays - this describer has handled a great many Appendix sheets during the last few years and I consider this example as one of the very finest productions from the artists employed at De La Rue.rnrnProvenance: Collection Lt. Four pinholes in the envelope at left but a very scarce and early Whitfield King cover.rnrnNote: Whitfield King purchased the Post Office residue of the first issue stock in Autumn 1890, probably towards the end of August. Most Whitfield King covers are generally found mailed during in 1895.

    Lithographed by Bradbury Wilkinson 1890/94: Imperforate Proof for the 2½ a. black on deep yellow, thick unwatermarked paper, wide margins at sides without gum and slight aging on reverse. With opinion from John Minns who possessed a similar example (a pair was in the Dunstan and Pennycuick collections), all of the known examples show a small violet "*" on reverse. It is presumed these rare Proofs were for presentation or display purposes. Extremely rare.

Correctly rated at 4½ annas (2½ a. + 2 a. registration), commercial covers bearing this issue are uncommon, John Minns noted just two (page 46). The 4 a. block close to left hand edge but all perfs. fine - this being the second largest multiple recorded ("British East Africa" by John Minns, page 52). Attractive and scarce. Signed A.
