    1914 (March 3): Perkins Bacon Die Proof for the 1 d. value, State 3, the final Die with re-engraved King's nose and background lines to the vignette, printed in carmine-red on thin glazed white card (124 x 92 mm.), endorsed 'third state' at base in pencil, and "3rd State, a copy handed by me to Mr Bacon for His Majesty 3.3.14 S:B:" (Seymour Bennett of Somerset House). Reverse with circular Perkins Bacon, Southwark "PROOF" cachet in black. Probably the most famous of all the early Die Proofs due to the well known inscription and a magnificent frontispiece for a connoisseur's collection.     1913: De La Rue Die Proof for the 1 d. value printed in black on stamp sized glazed thick card paper (27 x 32 mm.) with black surround, Stage 4, with design completed including addition of AUSTRALIA and POSTAGE with head on solid background, upper right corner yet to be completed. Rare and splendid Proof, Perkins Bacon sub-contracted the work to De La Rue (as apparent from these Proofs which were sold from their archives in 1976); this Proof being on the glazed white card is typical of their Die Proofs produced for Great Britain and the Commonwealth. The progressive Proofs were then returned to Perkins Bacon for inspection and completion. Unique. Cert.     Postal Forgery 1932: 2 d. scarlet, Postal Forgery on unwatermarked paper, perf. 11, an unused block of four of this exceptional forgery but for the perforations it may well have gone undetected for a longer period of time. The forgeries were used in Sydney in March and April 1932 for mailing forged Irish Sweepstakes tickets. A recipient, a Dr. E. C. Black, noticed the differences and asked the Post Office if this was a new issue. The perpetrator Charles Jackson and the engraver, Henry Elderfield, were eventually jailed after sending Dr. Black his forged tickets on an envelope franked by a similarly forged Sydney Harbour Bridge 2 d. adhesive.
