    Postal Forgeries 1882: Made to defraud the Post, lithographed 20 c. pale brown on white paper, perf. 16, a used example on printed envelope of H. Etienne & Co. of Cap-Haitien mailed in 1886 at double rate to Paris, endorsed "pr. Str. Francais" at left, the adhesive tied by two strikes of "Cap Haitien / Haiti" datestamp (Feb 24) in blue. Carried on French Paquebot and struck with octagonal "LE CAP HAITIEN / PAQ. FR. B No. 1" datestamp (Feb 24) in black (Salles fig. 1441). An extraordinary and famous cover, one of just two intact covers known bearing a Postal Forgery, unique with this value. A rarity.rnrnProvenance: Collection Norman S.
