Mail from Greece to Turkey 1866: The famous printed wrapper band mailed from Athens to Constantinople franked by 1862/67 2 l. brown, 5 l. green on greenish and 10 l. deep orange on blued, all tied by dotted '1' numeral of Athens on despatch with obscured 'Athens' cds at right and framed Greek PD at base denoting postage paid of 17 lepta. On arrival the newspaper was delivered to the Greek P.O. in Constantinople and thence to the Liannos Local Post Office where an 1865 20 pa. black on green was applied and tied by rectangular lozenge of dots. The addressee was not found and two circular negative seal handstamps I.P.P.L. / GALATA and I.P.P.L. / PHANAR (Imprimés Pour Poste Liannos) were applied along with oval Liannos Post bilingual GALATA datestamp (April 27) and, on reverse, PHANAR datestamp (April 30) in black. The cover eventually returned to sender. An extraordinary combination usage of both issues and a highlight of both Greek and Turkish classic philately. '224' (lepta) in red manuscript for double the 112 lepta rate under the Greek / Italian Convention of 1861. Reverse with Piraeus cds (Oct 25, julian) and Athens cds (Oct 26). The cover was carried by the Paquebot 'Nausilippe' and transferred to the 'Cygnus' at Messina for the journey to Piraeus.
