    1849: First Day Cover 20 c. black, a fine example with four clear margins, used on day of issue on entire letter (clearly dated inside) to Blois, cancelled by bold "Pithiviers" datestamp, clearly showing "1 JANV. 1849", with repeated strike at left. The addressee's name has been erased, with reverse showing "Ligne De Tours" cds (Jan 1st) and Blois arrival cds (Jan 2nd). A fine and extremely rare entire. Cert. Robineau (2007) Cérès = € 16'500.

    1849: First Day Cover 20 c. black, a fine example with three large margins all round and right vertical margin close but clear of the design, applied to reverse of entire letter (dated inside December 31) from Paris to Mirepoix. The front panel with red manuscript "Affranchie au dos" and the front panel and adhesive cancelled by Paris "Bureau Centrale / (60" datestamp "1 JANV. 49" in red and lightly tied again on arrival with "Mirepoix" datestamp in black. Some sensible strengthening to the file folds to aid display, an extremely rare and attractive first day usage. Cert. Calves (2004) Cérès = € 75'000.

    1849: 20 c. black, the famous cover to Tours bearing the single example with three large margins, shaved at right vertical margin just into the frame line, used from Paris Bureau J and struck with "Croix de Saint André" handstamp in black. Paris datestamp at right "5 JANV. 49", the fifth day of use for the adhesive, and reverse with Tours arrival cds of the following day. A rarity of great aesthetic appeal. Cert. Scheller (2008).

    1849: 20 c. black, a superb four margined example, used on 3rd day of issue to Allos, tied by provisional obliteration of three parallel bars: "Barres des Colmars Les Alpes" in black with corresponding "Colmars Les Alpes" datestamp clearly showing "3 JANV. 49" date at upper right. A fine and extremely rare usage for the Exhibit collection, the sole recorded example and a wonderful cover. Cert. Calves (2005).

    1850: 25 c. Cérès blue, tied with grill cancel, cds "MARSEILLE 23 JANV. 51" alongside on folded letter to Tunis with transit cds from Bone Algerie (Jan 28) and Tunis arrival cds (Jan 30) on the reverse; handwritten taxation "4" and ship endorsement "Par le Mérovée".     1 fr. carmine, three examples including a horizontal pair, used on double weight 1850 cover from Paris via London to St. Pierre, Martinique, tied by "grille sans fin" endorsed "pr. West India Mail Steamer via Southampton" at top and with Paris despatch (Nov 29) and London cds in red of the following day. Adhesives with minor faults and close to touched margins and envelope with some ageing and imperfections; however a very rare first issue franking.

    1849/50: Cérès collection of covers (11) including 10 c. bistre on large piece, 15 c. green on locally used cover (signed Calves, cert. Fourcaut); 20 c. black on covers (4) including third day of use double rate restored cover (from large piece) with two examples tied by Paris cds's (3 Jan, 1849) cds's in blue and one February 1849 entire from Mirepoix bearing four margined example tied by grill in red (signed Calves), 1850 cover from Paris to Naples franked by 25 c. blue (2) and 1 fr. carmine and a similar franking to Palermo; 1851 cover to England with two 40 c. orange from Bayonne and an 1852 part cover bearing 40 c. orange and 10 c. bistre; February 1850 entire with 1 fr. carmine single franking. Condition varies but an extraordinary group.
