Stamp market performs strongly at 161 – 167 Corinphila auction in March 2010 · Zurich, April 2010

With many pieces overrunning the treshold of about CHF 100’000 the recent Corinphila auction provided further evidence of a superbly performing stamp market.

One of our two top selling lots was the rare block of six ‘Zurich 6’ – Switzerland’s first stamp of 1843 – which sold for CHF 239’000 (incl. buyer’s premium) (fig. 1).

Another CHF 239’000 achieved ‘Canadas no. 1’, the rare unused 12 Pence with the beautiful portrait of Queen Victoria (fig. 2). Incidentally, this famous stamp was sold two times before at Corinphila's in 1966 and 1980, and achieved CHF 126’000 few years ago at a non-Corinphila auction.

Further highlights included Lot No. 6105, a fine letter franked with two ‘Zurich 4’ which sold for CHF 221’000 (fig. 3), while a vertical cutted ‘double Geneva’ on cover (fig. 4) stopped at exceptional CHF 179’000 (incl. buyers premium).

Combined total of CHF 700'000 for peace – successful charity auction for Kiriat Yearim at 163 Corinphila auction · Zurich, April 2010

Realizing the combined total of about CHF 700’000 the selling of Mr. Silvain Wyler's Austrian Empire collection at Corinphila's had been remarkably successful. This is even more pleasant since the collector will donate the entire revenues of his collection to the Swiss Charity organisation Kiriat Yearim in Israel. Top selling lot was a wonderful letter to Java, cover picture of Corinphila's Austria Sale, which sold for CHF 120'000.

A New Generation of Printed Stamp Album: Switzerland 1843 – 1881 · From Canton to Nation · Stamps Recounting Swiss History in the 19th Century

Classic Swiss philately merges historic and material values as nearly no other collectible hobby. Stamps recount Swiss history much as a time traveller might do; from the independent Cantonal states to the Federation period and the creation of the modern state of Switzerland. With this newly designed, fully illustrated pre-printed album, the pages detail the story of the classic early stamp issues of Switzerland up until 1881.
